I should have a little bit of time this weekend. I will try to pull
the commit to see if applies cleanly.

I am not convinced that the current application of is-bridged is
fully correct, syslog warnings notwithstanding. See here for how
I think it should work:

I will be implementing that behaviour for review when I have a bit
more time. It may be too invasive to easily apply to both 2.x and 3.x
though - we will see.
